Project Overview

In visual storytelling, how can we better communicate key information to enhance the collaborative experience of diagram creation? This project focuses on improving clarity and structure in diagram interactions by identifying what’s most important for users in these visuals.

Context & MVP Focus

Diagrams on our platform live on a collaborative canvas, where simplicity and accessibility are essential to their effectiveness. For the initial iteration, our goal was to deliver a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could establish a foundation for clear, organized diagramming. We identified three critical features for this MVP: a summary function, automated framing, and AI-driven titling for diagrams. These features were selected to provide contextual guidance and organization, ensuring each diagram is informative and visually intuitive.

Looking Ahead

Currently, users can benefit from an automatic framing and titling experience within individual diagrams. However, future iterations will allow this functionality to expand across multiple, nested diagrams on the canvas, giving users a more comprehensive, layered outline structure. As the project progresses, we aim to increase data-driven insights to refine and expand these features across varied diagramming contexts, enhancing both functionality and ease of use.

In early stages, the focus is on making data-informed design decisions to refine entry points and ensure intuitive user flows. Working with senior designers and engineers, the roadmap includes scaling these capabilities for broader applications across diagrams, preparing the groundwork for future integration and public testing.

I am extremely proud of my work on this feature. From the first problem statement in Linear—starting without a clear approach, knowing only that we needed to solve the diagram issue—I took it through early conceptualization, design critiques, multiple iterations of wireframing, and ultimately to the V1 design. As the sole designer on this feature, I was entrusted with a high level of responsibility, which I was determined to fulfill.

Our AI team operates with a startup mentality: move fast, learn faster, and deliver a product we truly believe in. I want to create something special, something I’m proud to share and lose sleep over if it isn’t exceptional. I can confidently say I’m proud of this work.

Ownership

After the completion of my summer internship at Lucid, I was asked to continue part time as an Associate UX Designer, under the Change Management team. Designing seamless migration experiences for new users to the Lucid Suite.
